Suit By The McGraw-Hill Companies Against Buildingteam.com, a Division of Reed Elsevier, Settled

NEW YORK, March 13, 2001 - The McGraw-Hill Companies (NYSE: MHP) announced today the settlement and final resolution of litigation that it initiated in February, 2000 against Reed Elsevier, Cahners Publishing's Buildingteam.com and an employee of Buildingteam.com.

The McGraw-Hill Companies' suit alleged that Robert Corcoran obtained confidential pricing and other information about The McGraw-Hill Companies' construction.com Internet site over a period of months. At the time, Corcoran was employed by Cahners' Buildingteam.com, which denied knowledge of his activities. The suit alleged that he received the information from an employee of The McGraw-Hill Companies who has since been dismissed. The McGraw-Hill Companies believes that the settlement agreement, whose terms remain undisclosed, achieves all of its objectives for the protection of its confidential and proprietary information. This settlement brings this matter to a satisfactory conclusion and finally resolves all of the issues in the case.
