Promotes Jan Tuchman to Editor-in-Chief
Howard Stussman Retires, Becoming Editor
Emeritus, After a 33-year Run With the Publication
New York (April
24, 2001) - Engineering News-Record (ENR) magazine,
the leading construction industry business weekly published
by Construction Information Group, a division of The McGraw-Hill
Companies (NYSE: MHP), today announced that Janice Lyn Tuchman
has been promoted to editor-in-chief. Ms. Tuchman replaces
Howard B. Stussman, who is retiring his daily duties after
working at ENR for 33-years. He will assume the position of
editor emeritus.
Ms. Tuchman is only the third editor-in-chief
at ENR over the past four decades. She succeeds Mr. Stussman
and Arthur J. Fox Jr., who is also editor emeritus and has
remained active in the industry since he retired at the end
of 1988.
"It’s not an easy task to replace someone
like Howard Stussman. His place and legacy in the industry
is monumental. We sought far and wide for guidance to determine
the best candidate for this incredibly important position.
And with all of that groundwork and feedback, all roads led
us back home. We are excited that Jan will step up as editor-in-chief
and we are confident that she will excel in her new role,"
said Jay McGraw, publisher of Engineering News-Record.
Ms. Tuchman most recently served as
ENR's executive editor. Key assignments of her 25 year career
at ENR include on-the-scene coverage of the Mexico City earthquake,
coverage of the construction of the Bank of China in Hong
Kong and the launch of ENR's Website, enr.com. She also co-authored
a book on exposed structure in building design. She is a popular
speaker at industry events worldwide.
Prior to joining ENR, Ms. Tuchman worked
for newspapers in Boulder, Colorado and Akron, Ohio. She earned
bachelors and masters degrees in journalism from the University
of Colorado in Boulder.
As editor emeritus, Mr. Stussman will
continue to consult and advise ENR in key areas. "Howard Stussman
leaves a legacy of editorial integrity, guidance of and caring
for the industry. ENR won many prestigious editorial awards
under Howard’s watch and grew to double-digit annual growth
with a relatively small staff. We thank Howard for his mentoring,
his conviction, intellect and his passion," said Norbert W.
Young Jr., president of the Construction Information Group.
