Robert Ivy is Editorial Director of McGraw-Hill Construction and Editor-in-chief of Architectural Record. Charles Linn is Deputy Editor-in-chief of Architectural Record and Editor of Schools of the 21st Century.

Session 1. The Challenges and Promise of New School Design. Ron Bogle, the leader of the most influential school-design advocacy organization in the U.S. sets the stage for our symposium. Mr. Bogle is president and CEO of the American Architectural Foundation.

1:35 – 2:05pm
Session 2. High Performance Schools: What they are and how to get one. Healthy, energy-efficient buildings needn’t cost more. Deane Evans, FAIA, is Executive Director of the Center for Architecture and Building at the New Jersey Institute of Technology.

2:10 – 3:00pm
Session 3. Advances in building systems for schools. Laura Viscusi and Charles Linn will lead a discussion with several experts who provide products used in the operation of school buildings. Water conservation, acoustical products, lighting, and heating and cooling are among the topics which will be covered. Laura Viscusi is Publisher of Architectural Record and Publisher of Schools of the 21st Century.

Session 5. New building materials for schools: Robert Ivy and Laura Viscusi will lead a discussion with several people involved in providing innovative, cost-effective, and sustainable materials used construction of new school buildings.

Session 6. Trends in educational design. Kerry Leonard, Immediate past Chair of the American Institute of Architects Committee on Architecture for Education will present new trends in K-12 school architecture. Kerry Leonard, AIA, is a Principal with OWP&P Architects in Chicago.

Session 7. Audience Q & A with Ron Bogle , Kerry Leonard, Deane Evans, Michele Russo. Moderated by Charles Linn.
