
Getting BIM to the Bottom Line
Steve Jones
Senior Director of Business Development, McGraw-Hill Construction
Leading McGraw-Hill Construction’s initiatives in Building Information Modeling, Interoperability, and Integrated Project Delivery is a high priority for Stephen A. Jones. As MHC’s senior director of business development, Steve also creates alliance relationships in technology and content with major corporations. Steve speaks widely on the implications of these new technologies and processes and in 2007 co-authored MHC’s SmartMarket Report on Interoperability, which has been distributed to over 200,000 industry professionals. He also co-authored the SmartMarket Report on BIM, titled Transforming Design and Construction to Achieve Greater Industry Productivity, which was released in December 2008.
Before joining McGraw-Hill, Steve was a vice president with Primavera Systems, a leading project management software provider to the construction industry. Earlier in his career, Steve spent 19 years in a variety of design and management roles with architecture firms. Most recently he was a principal and board of directors member with Burt Hill, one of the largest architectural/engineering firms in the U.S.
Steve is on the Board of Direction of the buildingSMART Alliance, represents MHC on the Process Transformation Committee of CURT (Construction Users Roundtable), and represents MHC on the AGC (Associated General Contractors) BIM Forum.
Kristine K. Fallon, FAIA
President, Kristine Fallon Associates, Inc.
Kristine K. Fallon, FAIA, has been a pioneer in computer applications for design and construction since the 1970’s. She is President of Kristine Fallon Associates, Inc., established in 1993 in Chicago, IL. She has over a decade of BIM experience and her firm was recently awarded one of ten $30 million GSA Nationwide BIM Services IDIQ contracts. In addition to successful experience in the GSA’s 3D 4D BIM Pilot Program, Kristine’s firm has facilitated several high-ROI construction phase BIM coordination efforts for hospital projects.
Kristine is a member of the American Institute of Architects College of Fellows, currently serves on Capital Development Board of Illinois’ BIM Advisory Committee and the Board of Direction of buildingSMART alliance. She was a member of the AIA national Technology in Architecture Practice Advisory Group 2004 – 2008 and continues to organize TAP’s annual Building Connections Congress on interoperability. She drafted AIA’s comments on the initial release of the National BIM Standard and participated on the National CADD Standard Project Committee. She was co-project leader for two NIST publications: Capital Facilities Information Handover Guide (NISTIR 7259, 2006), and General Buildings Information Handover Guide: Principles, Methodology and Case Studies (NISTIR 7417, 2007). She organized the CAD for Principals™ CAD Software Evaluation (2001), the first evaluation of “next-generation CAD” systems, based on a set of requirements defined by principals of 10 design firms. She is a contributing author of Architect’s Handbook of Professional Practice (13th and 14th editions). She was the 2001 recipient of the Ed Forrest Award for Excellence in Design/ Construction Automation. She developed and teaches a Computer-Integrated Project Delivery course in the Master of Project Management Program at Northwestern University McCormick School of Engineering.
Joseph Mazzella
Regional Publisher, Director of Sales, McGraw-Hill Construction
Joe Mazzella is responsible for the leadership, development, strategic direction, and management of the Regional Publications and Dodge workflow solutions in the Midwest. He is responsible for driving McGraw-Hill Construction’s revenue through enhanced business opportunities related to new markets, new products, and an expanded customer base. Joe leads his team on customer focus and satisfaction with his hands-on approach on core accounts within the Midwest.
Joe joined MHC from ICI/Glidden Paints, where he was director of architectural, engineering and government sales and services-USA. In this role he spearheaded USA specification efforts for commercial, industrial, residential, and property management markets. He has also served as a divisional director of engineering at Akzo Nobel, Inc., where he led the North American engineering sales efforts for commercial and industrial infrastructure markets.
Joe is on the Board of Directors for the ACE mentor program in Chicago, and Publisher for Midwest Construction and AIA Chicago Architect Magazines.
Joe earned a Bachelor of Science degree in Business Management & Economics from State University of New York.
Mike Schultze
Vice President of Builders Association
Mike joined the Builders Association in 2001. Mike assists with the implementation of Board-approved programs, services and policies. He is responsible for the association's labor relations, government relations and productivity and innovation program. Mike has an MBA from Lake Forest Graduate School of Management and a B.A. in Political Science from the University of Northern Iowa. Prior to joining the Builders Association, Mike worked as a consultant for Sapient Corporation and for Allstate Insurance Company's technology and marketing departments as a project manager and account manager.
