Interoperability, and Integrated Project Delivery is a high priority for Stephen A. Jones.
As MHC’s senior director of business development, Steve also creates alliance
relationships in technology and content with major corporations. Steve speaks widely
on the implications of these new technologies and processes and in 2007 co-authored
MHC’s SmartMarket Report on Interoperability, which has been distributed to over
200,000 industry professionals. He also co-authored the SmartMarket Report on BIM,
titled Transforming Design and Construction to Achieve Greater Industry Productivity,
which was released in December 2008.
Before joining McGraw-Hill, Steve was a vice president with Primavera Systems, a leading project management software provider to the construction industry. Earlier in his career, Steve spent 19 years in a variety of design and management roles with architecture firms. Most recently he was a principal and board of directors member with Burt Hill, one of the largest architectural/engineering firms in the U.S.
Steve is on the Board of Direction of the buildingSMART Alliance, represents MHC on the Process Transformation Committee of CURT (Construction Users Roundtable), and represents MHC on the AGC (Associated General Contractors) BIM Forum.
Digby Christian
Senior Project Manager, Sutter Health
Digby Christian is a Senior Project Manager for Sutter Health of California. He is currently managing a project to design and build a replacement hospital at Sutter Medical Center in Castro Valley. Digby handles all phases of design and construction of healthcare facilities from business plan validation and initial concept through design, entitlements, permitting, construction, move-in and initial operation. His experience ranges from rebuild projects in existing facilities, through construction of new hospitals.
Derek Cunz
Director of Project Development, Mortenson Construction
Derek Cunz is a Director of Project Development for Mortenson Construction. Prior to relocating to Denver, Derek was a project manager on the Walt Disney Concert Hall project in Los Angeles. Derek joined Mortenson in 1995 in their Advanced Technology Group. During his tenure with Mortenson, he has traveled extensively, building complex and technical projects in Northern Ireland, California, Colorado, Minnesota and Massachusetts. Derek is a leader in the industry in the implementation and utilization of virtual design and construction and integrated project delivery and leads Mortenson’s company wide VDC team. Derek collaborated with the Center for Innovative Facilities Engineering at Stanford University in the early industry development of 4D modeling. Three projects Derek has been involved in have won the AIA Technology in Architectural Practice BIM award. Engineering News Record named Derek a Top 25 Newsmaker in 2006 recognizing his contribution to the design and construction industry.
Derek has been a speaker at various forums and conferences on the subject of Building Information Modeling and Virtual Design and Construction, including the AIA, AISC, SAME, CII, DBIA, ABA, and numerous university and industry events.
Samir Emdanat
Director, Virtual Design & Construction, GHAFARI
Samir Emdanat is part of GHAFARI’s Virtual Design and Construction Consulting Group and is an industry recognized leader for his approach to integrating Virtual Design and Construction and Lean Project Delivery Principles to maximize the overall efficiency of the project’s design and construction supply chains. In 2005 he was recognized by ENR as one of the top 25 newsmakers in the industry for his work with General Motors on the Virtual Factory Initiative which resulted in breakthrough innovations in schedule, cost, quality, and safety on a number of projects. He consults on or directs the implementation of Lean and VDC construction initiatives for a number of owners including automotive, governmental, hospitality, healthcare as well as contractors, and architects/engineers around the country. He holds a master of architecture and a master of science in architecture from the University of Michigan.
Patrick MacLeamy, FAIA
Chief Executive Officer, HOK
Patrick MacLeamy is Chief Executive Officer of HOK Architects, a global design and services firm. Appointed to this position in March 2003, he leads the firm’s strategic vision and direction.
During his 40-year tenure at HOK, Mr. MacLeamy has served in leadership roles in design, project management, marketing and management. He also has overseen the establishment of several HOK regional offices in the U.S. and Asia.
Mr. MacLeamy advocates changing the fragmented nature of the building industry to a vertically integrated, highly efficient system that emulates the manufacturing industry. Mr. MacLeamy is committed to helping establish standards of quality, reliability and efficiency in the building industry.
Mr. MacLeamy has supported this vision as a founder and Chairman of buildingSMART International (bSI), an organization which fosters open interoperable BIM standards for data exchange in the building industry. bSI, with 14 chapters worldwide, continues to expand an international data exchange standard used by more than 100 software programs.
Mr. MacLeamy is also an active speaker and panelist for building industry forums including AIA, AIA LFRT, ASCE, CIRT, CSI, CURT, NIBS, OSCRE and others.
Mr. MacLeamy also serves as a board member of ACE Mentor Program of America, mentoring young adults in the building industry; Construction Industry Round Table (CIRT), a forum for large design/construction firms; and The Pankow Foundation Advisory Board, funding innovation in the building industry.
John Mack
VDC / BIM Manager

John Mack has been in trade for the past 23 years. During that time John has held positions doing project management, estimator, material ordering, installation of piping and plumbing systems as a journeyman pipe fitter, project foreman, project general foreman, detailer, detailing manager and 3Dsoftware developer. Outside the work place John has been a teacher at union halls and community colleges, authored magazine articles on the topic of virtual design and presented at many industry conferences. John also has been working with professors at UC Berkeley, Stanford, CalPoly SLO and Cal State Chico to educate the students in the construction management, civil engineering and architectural departments on use of VDC on the job site. This range of experience gives him a unique vantage point for his current role as VDC / BIM Manager for Herrero Contractors, Inc., where he is responsible for implementation of virtual design and construction processes including 3D/BIM modeling, integrated project development, implementation lean construction practices and material delivery on a wide range of projects, including the $1.4 billion Cathedral Hill Medical Center in San Francisco for CPMC Sutter Health.

Ben is the owner and founder of Provo, Utah-based May Construction Services, a firm that specializes in 3D modeling and BIM consulting. May has been involved with advanced 3D Solid Modeling and Building Information Modeling since 1995 and has experience researching software programs such as Pro/E, CATIA, Navisworks, Revit, CommonPoint, Vico, QTO, Rhino and Inventor.
Currently May’s office has multiple active BIM projects in the intermountain area ranging from a 22 Story Condo Tower to a $250M Data Center.
Before running his company as a full time venture in 2005 Ben was a Project Manager for Big-D Construction. Earlier is his career Ben was a 3D and 4D modeler for DPR Construction and M.A. Mortenson where he worked on projects such as the Walt Disney Concert Hall, Bay Street Emeryville and Micron Fabrication.
John Moebes, AIA NCARB
Director of Construction, Crate&Barrel
John Moebes, AIA, NCARB, is Director of Construction for Crate&Barrel, initially holding the position of Director of Construction when he joined the company in 2006. He is recognized as a leader in the use of Internet-based project management tools, Building Information Modeling, and digital document review to improve project performance.
Before joining Crate&Barrel, Moebes was an Associate Principal at Good Fulton & Farrell Architects in Dallas, where he oversaw the firm’s development and use of workflow technology. Having worked for Modern Continental Construction and Wholefoods Markets, he has experience in all sectors of the AEC industry.
Moebes received his Bachelor’s Degree from the University of Massachusetts and his Master’s Degree from the University of Texas.
David Morris

David Morris, Director of Virtual Construction for EMCOR , has over thirty years of experience performing and directing all phases of piping and mechanical systems for Commercial, Hospitality, Industrial, and Power Generation construction. Current duties include improving BIM processes and sharing best detailing and virtual design practices across the 80 EMCOR group companies.
Mr. Morris is well known as an industry activist for Integrated Project Delivery, BIM and Process Transformation and has presented to AIA, CURT, AGC, MCAA and other industry functions related to Virtual Construction and Building Information Modeling.
As a participant in the 3XPT committee through the Construction User’s Roundtable Process Transformation Committee, Chairman of Associated General Contractors BIM Forum Subcontractors Subcommittee, Vice-Chairman of the BuildingSmart Alliance Board of Directors and Director of the Quality of Life and Visualization, Simulation & Analysis Programs, Mr. Morris brings a practical and commercial perspective to the use of technology in construction.
Brady Nadell, PE
Project Manager, PB Americas, Inc.
Brady is a registered civil engineer with 20 years of experience on transportation projects. Currently, Brady Nadell is the project manager for Parsons Brinckerhoff (PB) in San Francisco on the San Francisco - Oakland Bay Bridge East Span Retrofit Project for Parsons Brinckerhoff. and is involved in the Doyle Drive - Golden Gate Bridge southern approach. For the last three years Brady has been a champion for implementing Virtual Design and Construction (VDC) processes to support design and construction planning on these projects and within the Transportation Engineering field. Brady Nadell is a graduate of UC Berkeley.
George A. Pontikes, Jr.

George has been involved in development and construction activities since the mid-1970s. He started out working in the field and has worked in every capacity from a laborer to numerous crafts all the way to superintendent, project manager and eventually President. These experiences have allowed him to build successful companies and partnerships, all related to construction. Currently, George is the President and Chief Executive Officer of Satterfield & Pontikes Construction, Inc., a General Contractor headquartered in Houston, Texas with offices in Dallas/Fort Worth, San Antonio, Austin, and New Orleans, Louisiana.
George has always been committed to using the latest in technology to improve the construction process. Drawing on the lessons he has learned on hundreds of projects, he has pioneered the development of many technological advancements and his involvement in Integrated Project Delivery (IPD) and Building Information Modeling (BIM) are the logical progressions of that commitment. George’s personal involvement with IPD, as well as his financial commitment to testing it on his own building, has produced a project that has been recognized by the American Institute of Architects (AIA) with a national award for most inspirational BIM pilot project for 2006. The project garnered more than a dozen other industry awards for architecture, construction, innovation, and sustainability.
As the major stockholder of the firm, George is most sensitive to client needs and has proven that satisfied clients generally become colleagues and friends as well as repeat customers. Currently, in addition to being the President and CEO of Satterfield & Pontikes, George serves on several boards including: the Houston Chapter of the AGC; the Parish School, a private institution specializing in teaching language-challenged children; the Galveston Bay Foundation, and ISI Acquisition Corporation, a road and infrastructure contractor.

Nadine M. Post, Engineering News-Record's editor-at-large, is an award-winning journalist with more than 30 years' experience writing about development, design, engineering and construction. In addition to covering trends and issues relating to construction, Post has written about projects as diverse as the Statue of Liberty restoration or the world's tallest building. She has also covered the impact on the built environment of earthquakes, storms, fire and terrorist attacks, including the 1993 bombing and 2001 destruction of the World Trade Center. Post has written about urban planning, structural and mechanical engineering, seismic and wind design, codes and standards, green buildings, construction methods, project delivery systems and computers in design and construction. In 1985, she wrote McGraw-Hill's book Restoring the Statue of Liberty (1986) for the restoration’s architects, Richard S. Hayden and Thierry W. Despont. Scott grew up in the steel industry and is the owner of South Central Steel, Inc., a steel fabricator with multiple plants in Alabama. He was also a principal at TRC Worldwide Engineering where they specialize in fast track projects by combining the engineering and detailing services under one roof. His main area of focus for the past several years has been educating owners and constructions firms about the wastes and inefficiencies associated with the current practice of buying fabricated steel and how BIM software and IPD can greatly improve cost, accuracy and delivery.

Tokmo is the leading provider of software solutions for Lean design & construction, BIM project management, visual production management, and COBIE data integration.
Mr. Starkov is board member of Lean Construction Institute’s National Capitol Region chapter, board member of CMAA National Capitol Region chapter, and board member of DBIA Mid-Atlantic Region chapter.
Mr. Starkov holds a Masters in Applied Mathematics and Computer Science from Moscow University, Russia, and an Executive MBA from Georgetown University, Washington, DC.
David Van Wyk
Executive Director, Project Management, Walt Disney Imagineering
As Executive Director, Project Management for Walt Disney Imagineering, David oversees the design, construction, installation and turnover for projects located in Disney’s Theme Parks. Headquartered in Glendale, California, Walt Disney Imagineering is the master planning, creative development, design, engineering, production, project management and research and development arm of the Walt Disney Company.
David has been an Imagineer for 30 years working on various projects in the Magic Kingdom at Walt Disney World, Epcot, Disneyland Paris, Disney’s Animal Kingdom, Disneyland and Disney’s California Adventure. His recent completed work was focused on the California based Disneyland Resort completing Toy Story Midway Mania, Finding Nemo, Buzz Lightyear Astro Blasters and Space Mountain.
Currently David heads two teams working to add and transform Attractions, restaurants, shops and area development within Disney’s California Adventure. One of these new Attractions is based on Disney’s feature animated film The Little Mermaid. As one of Imagineering’s first projects to utilize integrated project delivery, he is leading a group of engineers, designers, contractors and construction managers through this new delivery method.
Residing in southern California, David is a registered architect and a member of the Los Angeles chapter of the AIA.
